Are we talking about the same chap who just saved 66 women and children in a blazing coach fire on the M3 on Friday 31/07/2009. His name was Pc Colin Swan 444ww from Wandsworth borough. I glad he didn't have a problem with his bravery or issues with race.

"By using section 44’s lack of a need of reasonable suspicion, police are stopping and getting information from people which is stored on a database for 7 years and can be used for any investigation by the police or other government bodies. Combine that with CCTV footage and you have quite a powerful mine of data from which to investigate anything you like, criminal or otherwise"

The only people who should be worried about this are criminals and terrorists and perhaps the odd paranoid schizophrenic.

The point is that all the stops and searches under section 44 have not led to a single charge under the terrorism act. The officers have no more a clue as to whether I am a terrorist or not as they didn't even search me.

The purposes are two fold.
1) To generate a statistic that police forces can pull out to say they are combating terrorism. "5,000 stop and searches led to no terrorism in wandsworth/wherever." Nice one.

This ridiculous stat-mongering, combined with a fear of being seen to be targeting ethnic groups has led to the recent phenomenon of police targeting white people for S44 stops to "even-up" the stats. What a waste of time and money!

This is despite the fact that S44 does not give the police the right to any personal information from the people they stop. It was intended for stop and search powers only.

"I find it hard to beleive the officer in question would of stopped you due to the colour of your skin."

Yet another good point rendered moot by an unforgivable grammatical error. Are you trying to wind me up?
