The apostrophe abuse here is annoying but what really gets my goat is the way this sign is written to appear as though the sign itself is addressing the reader. Do people think it’s cute, or funny, or friendly? Well it’s not; it’s confusing, annoying and disturbing. So stop it.
The fact that this particular sign is all in capitals and has no full-stops makes it appear that this sign, when personified, is shouting a garbled nonsensical diatribe. The “homeless-drunk-at-the-bus-stop” persona is galvanized by the not-so-veiled threat in the headline.
FOR YOUR CHILDREN’S AND YOUR OWN SAFETY…
Creepy. Still, at least they got the apostrophe right that time.
