The Way I Are - a parody

As you can probably imagine, I’m not a fan of the Timbaland song, “The Way I Are“.

I’m not usually so much of a stickler that bad grammar in song lyrics bothers me but there are limits. The Way I Are? Come on, that’s egregious.

I like this parody, which pokes fun at the sloppy grammar of Timbaland’s original.

This video is improved by no small amount by the cameo appearance of Hot For Words star, Marina, in a ridiculously short skirt.

Call me cynical but I’m starting to suspect that the reason she gets so many viewers on YouTube has little to do with her knowledge of etymology.

You figured me out! Actually, I do use certain “assets” to attract my viewers.. but once there, they actually find that there is substance to my videos… so check a couple more out and then you won’t have to be cynical. Maybe there still is hope for the intellectuals of this world.. even if the lessons are sometimes dressed up in a titillating package

I don’t love “The Way I Are” either but I’ve always been more inclined to treat it like artistic license (poetry, I guess) than outright bad grammar.

i’d like to know why someone who cries over typos and misplaced apostrophes is so sloppy with her own grammar and punctuation.

“OK”? “No no no”?

i’d say you have some serious punctuation issues you should’ve worked out in the fucking sixth grade. O_O

you’re not smart because you point out some shameful typos and misspellings on signs. plz 2 be educating me about nuances and obscure rules i wouldn’t otherwise know. that’s what i want from a grammar blog. not your shit about what the the cool kids wear.

Hi Laura,

A descriptivist might argue that if a chap with such a masterful grasp of the English language as you doesn’t know about a particular “nuance or obscure rule”, then it’s not worth knowing.
